Exercise and physical fitness can sometimes have the image of being a chore, or something that you only do because you have to. Routine training sessions and mega strict diets have to be followed and there is no room for deviation.

We need to try and change this perception to show that you can get active and keep fit, whilst remaining positive and enjoying your exercise.

Physical fitness can be done in multiple ways. It is not just about lifting heavy weights or running until you want to throw up, all just to lose a few extra pounds.

At Connect Activity, we believe that doing something that you enjoy and not putting too much pressure on yourself is the correct approach. If you enjoy what you are doing, you will feel motivated to do it regularly and you will naturally see both your physical and mental wellness improve.

We also think that this approach should be taken to your diet. We all know that it is important for us to eat our fruit and vegetables and drink lots of water, but we all have those days when we just don’t want to be healthy. The Christmas period is definitely one of those times and as much as we say it won’t, this can easily spread over to the New Year.

We believe that if you want an unhealthy day then you should go for it, you should not feel guilty for this. Mental satisfaction and treating yourself can be just as important as eating your fruit and veg.

For inspiration, Connect Activity follows @rachbodyfitnessfood and her exercise and eating plans. Rachel loves her exercise and being healthy with her food choices, but she also enjoys her Friday night treats and a glass of wine.

We asked Rachel what her thoughts were on the topic of enjoying exercise and dieting, she told us:

“A balanced lifestyle to me is so important. I don’t obsess over exercise to fit in to skinny jeans or diet myself to starvation; I workout when I feel like it and eat what I want. I have always loved sport from a very early age and luckily I do enjoy the healthier options of food. However, on a Friday night you will more than likely find me a with a glass or two of wine and a burger in my hand.

Exercise for me helps with positivity, releasing any stress and clearing the mind. A run or a training session at the start of the day gives me a spring in my step, the perfect kick start. I always feel energised and happier post training and I love the feeling of sore muscles, knowing I’ve had a positive impact on my body. I don’t drag myself to the gym, I want to go. On days where I feel like my body needs a rest, I simply rest. It’s all about balance and being kind to yourself. I love to feel my body getting stronger, but I honestly believe that exercise gives me a stronger mind too. Don’t push yourself too far and make dieting and exercise a chore, make it fun.”
